Under the Ministerial Code former Ministers who want to take up any appointments or employment for two years after leaving office are required to seek advice from the Advisory Committee, and must abide by that advice. Former Ministers are asked to complete an application form. After considering the request against specific tests as set out in the Business Appointment Rules for Former Ministers, the Committee provides advice directly to the former Minister. The Ministerial Code of May 2010 states that former Ministers are prohibited from lobbying Government for two years. In addition the Committee may decide to recommend a waiting period and/or other restrictions.
The Advisory Committee publishes details of the appointments it has considered during the current reporting year, and that have been taken up, on this website. Information on earlier appointments can be found in relevant annual report.
